LATEST NEWS - MAY 2012

May has started with the introduction of our new Investigators Directory which is getting over 400 visits a day which is unprecedented for a site that has just been launched. The site is already on Page 2 of Google and we expect to get to number 1 in a few weeks. The biggest problem is that we don't seem to be getting Investigators signing up which is beyond belief considering the exposure it can give them. So for those supporting the site and getting free advertising we thank you and for those still reluctant to sign up please keep paying your money for advertising and chasing clients the standard way. Just as an example of how th site can help you. Scott Gooch and Tracy Hartly listed on the site a few days ago. Try entering one of their names with the word investigator after it, i.e. Scott Gooch Investigator and you will see he is Number 1 on Page 1 of Google. Tracy Hartly Investigator is Number 4 on Page 1 of Google.

We have advertised three new dates for out Fast Track courses and as always they are filling very quickly. Sydney is nearly sold out and Melbourne and Brisbane are not far behind.

Im off the the USA to meet the father I never new I had until a short while ago. For those that have been on my courses you would know all about this and the story on how I tracked him down. Plenty to talk about when I get back.

We are please to announce that the new investigator directory has finally been finished and released due to the hard and professional work of our web design team. This website will be a 'One Stop Shop' to find Investigators and Security Professionals and we have no doubt that in a short space of time it will be the only place to for clients and employers to visit to find the people they are looking for. MELBOURNE/SYDNEY STATEMENT & COVERT SURVEILLANCE WORKSHOPS

UPDATE: SYDNEY FULL

The demand for our Covert Surveillance and Statement Interviewing workshops seems to be increasing with both April courses being booked out. This is as a result of many government agencies wanted to train their own teams leaving little time for everyone else.

We have just announced a second series of workshops in late May/June and I would suggest that you place you names with Gemma asap as there are limited places remaining due to advance bookings. These places will fill in a few days.

Surveillance positions are available with at least 4 reputable companies for those persons who demonstrate the required skills.

To book please contact Gemma or Lynn at reception@assii.com.au or call 1300 656 735

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE COURSE - COMBINED CERTIFICATE III INVESTIGATIONS & CERT IV in GOVERNMENT FRAUD CONTROL

ASSI is about to release a new course which will deliver the Certificate III in Investigative Services coupled with the Certificate IV in Government Investigations (Fraud Control) to be delivered in Sydney NSW. Only persons working (or who have worked) in a Government environment will be eligible to attend this course as there will be a recognition of Prior Learning and Current Competency component. At this stage the course will be delivered over 3 x 1 week blocks spread over a 3 month period with some external assignments. The course will be a practical based course with a theory component and will be very interactive. The last course we conduct in 2010 was booked out in weeks and the feedback we received was very satisfying.

If you would like to place your name down on this course which is restricted to 15 persons please call Gemma on (02) 9231 0888 or 1300 656 735 or email at reception@assii.com.au. We already have 5 positions allocated to Government employees from the hospital system so please don't delay. This dual certification will give you additional skills and make you very marketable in relation to promotions and other job opportunities.

TESTIMONIAL - THIS IS WHY PEOPLE DO OUR COURSES

Many thanks to everyone who sends in comments about our training. As you would know we put in more than 100% and this results in more and more professional investigators entering the industry.

Afternoon,

Just wanted to say that I am so glad I found ASSI, the course was great and prepared me for the industry well. Only a few months after putting myself out there I am making investigating my full time job and could not have imagined having such an interesting, flexible and challenging job. I am free from sitting at a desk all day every day for the rest of my life I do factual and surveillance about 50/50.

Investigation companies also like it when people have been through ASSI, it is well regarded!! Jonathan was great too invaluable.

Thanks for the new career Oh also the forum has provided me with excellent networking and resulting in getting work

Amanda H - Melbourne

I work in South Australia as a Surveillance Investigator and have just finished a month long surveillance investigation. The skills I learned in my Cert 111 in Investigations through ASSI really helped. Thanks Adrian and J.C.

FAST TRACK COURSES ALMOST FULLY BOOKED

Just a reminder to those persons thinking about booking on to the upcoming Fast Track Investigator courses in Sydney and Melbourne, these courses are nearing capacity and due to our current workload overseas and with an increase in investigation services we may not be delivering another course until after the financial year.

The fit out of our Sydney Investigations Training Centre is nearing completion and will provide a training environment that is second to none. We hope to be moving our operations over sometime in May/June 2012

Sydney Pirate Pay TV Uncovered by Investigators:

Great work by Mick Speck in relation to the following arrests.

Police have raided the Sydney arm of an alleged global piracy outfit which they say was selling unlicensed pay TV subscription packages offering over 1000 channels for $50 a month. Police allege an Ashfield shop in Sydney's west, trading as QMC Mart, is part of a global piracy operation which private investigators say is worth $70 million a year with 150,000 customers.

The raid, conducted shortly after midday yesterday, was sparked by TVB Group, a Chinese language content giant that hired a private investigation firm to dig up dirt on the alleged piracy operation.

Detective Inspector Eric Coffen, of Ashfield Police, said a 42-year-old man was charged and granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on February 22. He was charged with "possessing a device with the intent to be used to make infringing copy" and "distributing infringing copy of a work with intent to trade/profit".

Police seized computer equipment, nine USB network access keys and records "pertaining to the distribution and sale of those", Inspector Coffen said. The raid follows a similar one conducted on December 14 in Hurstville, Sydney's south, which saw a man arrested for allegedly selling $500 set-top boxes and unlicensed pay TV subscription packages offering 1000 channels for $90 a month.

Michael Speck, former head of Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI), was contracted to lead both investigations.

He has so far identified 100 Australian customers from records seized at yesterday's raid who were using the service and said they would be pursued as they were "receivers of stolen property".

GREAT WORK - FAST TRACK COURSES - SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE

A big thank you to everyone who completed the Phase 1 training for the Sydney and Melbourne Fast Track Courses this week. A challenging week I know but you all breezed through and the commitment to learning was exceptional. We look forward to seeing you soon for the Phase 2 and 3 surveillance and interviewing sessions.

NEW LICENSING REQUIREMENTS - 2012

Well it wasn't as if it was a surprise but new licensing regulations coming into play in early to mid 2012 in almost all states will see a dramatic increase in training times and new investigators will have to attend far more training sessions to meet requirements. If you are considering becoming an investigator we would advise that you book in now otherwise you might find it difficult to work in the new training times with your current job as many people simply cannot get the time off work to attend.

CONGRATULATIONS - CAR REBIRTHING RACKET UNCOVERED by ASSI INVESTIGATORS

This job never ceases to amaze me. Two former ASSI students conducting surveillance last week on behalf of one of the major banks found themselves sitting off a property in Seven Hills Sydney in an attempt to located a person who had committed fraud on the bank. During the evening, James noticed a couple of shady characters take a late model SS commodore into the rear of a premises and noted the registration down. About two hours later a second vehicle, another HSV Commodore into the same premises. These premises had no link to the inquiry they were actually doing. James decided to call the local Police based on what he had seen and that "it just didn't seem right". The following day James received a call to say that the premises were being used as a re birthing factory and three stolen vehicles were seized. Magnificent job guys and a credit to you. I am certain your efforts will be rewarded even if it is a Certificate of Appreciation. Why would you want to do any other job !!!
